Day 6

--Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, speaking of his mother:
"... she would “call on the Lord with perfect confidence when special blessings were needed.” In her prayers, she would speak to the Lord of her covenants with Him, “almost reminding the Lord that we had paid our tithes and offerings, that the desired blessing was, as nearly as we could judge, a righteous desire, that we were serving in our various callings to the best of our ability, and that now we were laying hold on the Lord’s promises. I can’t communicate the sincerity and the fervor of those pleas. Or the sincerity of the way she lived. … Because my mother had no doubts about the Lord’s reality and his ability to answer her prayers, I haven’t either. … This is a very personal thing to talk about and I don’t very often, because it’s hard to do without sounding overconfident. But I would be scared to death to try and undertake something without asking for the Lord’s help, so I always pray for that help, and I’ve never failed to get it.”

"How often have we prayed something like, "O Lord, be with cousin Billy now in a special way"? Have we stopped to consider what it is we're requesting? Imagine that you are a parent who is preparing to leave your children with a babysitter. Would you dream of saying, "O Betsy, I ask you now that you would be with my children in a special way?" No way. You would say, "Betsy, the kids need to be in bed by 9 pm. They can have one snack before their baths, and please make sure they finish their homework. You can reach us at this number if there's any problem. Any questions before we go?" We are very specific with our requests and instructions for our babysitters. We want them to know specifics. It should be no different with prayer."
--David Jeremiah

Sherri has asked for everyone to be very specific in their prayers right now for Natalee. These are the things that she would like us to pray for:
  1. That the tumor will start gelling together so that when the surgeons go in to take it out it can be removed cleanly
  2. That the surgeons will be in good health and sound mind during the surgery
  3. That the tumor will stop growing
  4. That surgery could be scheduled for Friday to get the tumor out as soon as possible

Now that the shock and numbness of the diagnosis are starting to wear off, Sherri says that she is feeling great comfort from the comments on the blog and that Natalee really appreciates this too. She feels like the ability to be able to read and reread the uplifting thoughts and prayers is helping to their burden.

No word yet from the surgeons on a possible date for surgery, but will post it here as soon as we know.

Natalee,
"Get well soon" is not right for this situation. It's too soft, like all you are dealing with is a cold. Honestly, I have no idea what to say, which I think is a first that has happened while communicating with you. I was near crying Friday, my hands were shaking so hard that it took me five minutes to right the word 'Gulf' in social studies. Everyone is worried out of their minds, and I even got a tear or two out of my mom. By the way, the Desperate Housewives season finale was AWESOME!
Oh yeah and you are in my social studies group for a project. That doesn't matter at all but you should know.

Hey!
Sorry if I scared you.
During Social Studies, we all did a big hug thing and Tanler send it to you...? Anyway, she wanted to know if you felt our crushing love at 1:30 or so. I might be spoiling a surprise, but, your friends are going to be in a video sent to you (I'm in there... I don't know why). Well, recover fast and why did you want homework?
Just wondering, Nicholas Knapper

So far, I think my favorite post is Tylers. It was so true...there is no word for how much any one really wants you to get better. You are constantly in our hearts, and I hope you are only thinking postitive. It did kinda shake me up on Friday when I heard, when somethig like this hit so close to home, but it made me think how special life can really be. Weird-I can hear sirens right now, funny quinkie-dink. And just to let you know people have been making shirts that say things like 'We Love You Pickle' and "save The Pickle' to school. They are really cute, and it makes us think of you!
Hey, so Mrs. Jophnson tells us you came in for homework, so you have to be bored. I don't know how often you can get on the computer, but here are some would you rathers and things like that if maybe someone can print so you can do while in extreme boredness (because to be honest i'd be vveeerrryyyy bored, so your not the only one who would feel that way!)
-Would you rather marry a vain person or a person with poor image?
-Would you rather eat 30 pounds of cheese in one sitting or a bucket of peanut butter (without water)?
-Would you rather clean up al the dog poo in your neighborhood for three days or step in dog poo barefoot every day for a week without cleaning it?
-Would you rather be hilarious or genius?
-Wold you rather lick peanut butter of a hobo's foot or be locked in a cage with a tiger?
- Would you rather have a really tiny TV or a really tiny computer?
-Would you rather have to eat cheese in every meal for the rest of your life or have beans in every meal for the rest of your life?
have fun, I'll try to post more!
Sending Love (Yes, lol, wayy more! )

Natalee,
I really hope you get well. Wow, you are so brave, you know? Today at around 1:30 pm we (Mrs. Tanler's core 4 class) all sent you a hug, and we all hoped you felt it. Everybody is wearing "Save the Pickle" t-shirts at school. We're all thinking of you. Again, I hope you get better. We never exactly knew each other, but still. It would be great to have you back at school.

Dear Natalee,You have no idea how much everyone cares about you over here! Not to goet you embarresed or anything, but on Friday during Social Studies [Mrs. Tanler's class]Everyone had this HUGE conversation in class all about you! We wrote down some ways to help you and all that! You are probibly already already scarlet, but today in Language Arts we had another conversation about you. So if you ever douted that people somewhere are thinking of you, think again! I'm sorry I didn't leave a comment till now, I only figured out I could do this now! I know what you thinking, that I know NOTHING about the computer. that is actuwally very close to the truth. You must be very brave, it's a lot to take in. But on the very small bright side, you get to miss school! Instead, you get shots. Yay. Well I wish you heath and happiness.           Sincerly,           Margo Smolyansky [your core class]

Dear Natalee,
I think about you constantly and hope you feel good. You are such a sweet friend and I miss you so much! I've been praying a lot for you to get better. I missed you at lunch yesterday. I forgot my lunch and had to by it at school. I think it was a chicken sandwich, but I'm not sure. I wish you were there to help identify it. Charlie said it was inedible, but sadly I proved him wrong. I love you!

It says "Fight with Natalee" and on the back is a #10...[your basketball number]. It's pretty cool. So did you watch American Idol tonight? You want Kris to win right? I like him too. Well I'm keeping you in my prayers and thoughts, and I love you!!!

Hi Natalee,

I have been thinking about you the past couple of days. From all these wonderful comments, it looks like a lot of other people have been, too! This is a big challenge for you and your family, but you are surrounded by love and strength. I see that you have been staying at the Emanuel Hotel. While you are enjoying the luxurious accommodations there, be sure to take a walk around the building to see if you can spot some of the papier mache (I can never spell that right, even if I am 1/8 French!) animals made by McKay students a few years ago. Madeline's sister McCall might have worked on them, and probably some other kids you would know, too.

Stay strong,
Sue Baumgartner

Hi Natalee! We wanted to let you know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. You are a strong young lady (we've seen it on the b-ball court!). You can beat this!
Sherri and Kent, what can we do to help? Say the word, and Matt will start taking care of your yard and I can cook, clean, whatever you need.
Take care,
Shawna, Matt, Kaytlin and Jenna Wyss

Hi Natalee,
I'm sitting at my desk here at McKay while my students who didn't do their homework are doing it during recess. Don't worry, I won't keep them in the whole recess. I just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you daily and praying often. Mr. Seggie and I were talking about how brilliant and confident you are.

With a smile,
Mrs. Parra

You don't know me, but your sister-in-law Lindsay is my cousin. What a trial to have to endure--my little family will be praying for you and yours while you struggle with this. I wish we could do more. Don't forget that God loves you and your family, that He can comfort you when nothing else will, that His arms will always be around you.
